Parks' Double Or Nothing Returns

Orlando, Fla. -- After a short hiatus, the best double up contest of all time is back. On September 5, 2010, 16 of the worlds best riders will give it everything they've got in Central Florida for the Parks' Double Or Nothing Double Up Contest.

The legend himself, Parks Bonifay is more excited than ever, especially after sticking a double half cab roll in practice. "I've been riding a lot lately," Parks said. "That's the first double roll I've done in five years, and I feel the best I've felt since my injuries. I'm going to go after a double half cab mobe in the event. My goal is to take it down and win this thing."

The wake will be bigger than ever and a new boat will be unveiled for the event -- the supercharged Parks Bonifay signature MasterCraft X Star. "I think this wake is what we need to get some new tricks in the books," Parks said. "Everyone I invited has a legit chance to win. It's gonna be cool to be out with the boys doing what we do best."

To get the best conditions, the event will occur on one day in the window of September 5-8. This event is "made for media", so there will only be sponsors, riders and top media members on site. This event will wrap up just in time for the best tricks to also be nominated for the 2010 Wake Awards "Move Of The Year."

The Double Or Nothing awards ceremony begins Thursday, September 9 on the greens of Legends golf course. After a full round of 18 holes, the riders will converge upon the clubhouse for a catered lunch to judge the best trick among each other. Later that night, the votes will be tallied up and the winner will be awarded $10,000 at Skye 60 in downtown Orlando.

History
Way back in the day when Red Bull got involved with the sport of wakeboarding, they pushed the sport in many ways never dreamed possible. From doing wakeboard contest in deep caves to whipping their riders into the world's best waves and even arctic icebergs. Red Bull has always kept their finger on the pulse and helped the sport of wakeboarding reach new heights.

From 2004-2007, Double Or Nothing was the premier event for showcasing the most technical tricks that wakeboarding had to offer. The event took a hiatus for two years, as some riders focused on pushing the limits of rail riding. Once again, Red Bull was at the forefront with the creation of Red Bull Wakelab, an event that incorporated the Sesitec 2.0 cable system, the first portable cable system allowing the sport to be showcased to the masses in locations never thought of before.

Now fast forward to 2010 and the time has come to bring Double Or Nothing back! Now 1080's are becoming a commonplace and even 1260's are possible. There have been more new tricks landed in the last year than ever before. Part of this inspiration came from Red Bull’s movie, Project X, with Shaun White. His recent progression of double corked maneuvers has opened a lot of eyes for what could be possible on a wakeboard.

Tom Fooshee Wins Monster Energy Triple Crown at KWC

Tom Fooshee continued his reign on the cable at the second stop of the WWA Monster Energy Triple Crown presented by Alliance Wakeboard Magazine. On the final day of July 2010, the action was at Kansas City Watersports, where some of the best cable wakeboarders in the world turned out to vie for the title. Despite the best efforts of a global field of riders, Fooshee dominated in not only the pro finals, but the Ten-80 Obstacles only field as well.

Always modest Tom was elated to defend his title and take home the prize. “I was way tougher to adjust to the park, and since [KCW] is not my home park, it was really anyone’s game,” he said. “My tech tricks on the rail left me feeling pretty confident though and definitely benefited me in the end.”

Nestled just outside Olathe, Kansas, KCW was stocked and ready for the event, with multiple kickers, a roof top rail, a-frame, the 100-foot Alliance flat bar and more for riders to throw their best tricks on. Once the pro men’s field was whittled down to 8, riders went head to head, until there was only one left.

The final two came down to Tom Fooshee, and Lior Sofer of Isreal. In the wakeboard finals, riders got one pass, one pick up, plus a chance to throw one more Monster Energy trick to impress the judges. Lior rode well, sticking a BS 7, Crow mobe, 540, as well as some rail combos, but his fall on a mobe 5 opened the door for Fooshee. Tom was on fire, basically falling one time the entire day and landing a HS FS9, crow mobe 5, Pete Rose and an impressive boardslide to 450 on the a-frame in his final run to secure top honors.

“It was my first time in Kansas and it’s one of the best parks I’ve been too,” Lior said. “It was my first time in the top two and I was really nervous and excited. I am happy for Tom and myself for all of the tricks I threw.”

In addition to the cable heavyweights, some serious shredders mostly known for their skills behind the boat, such as Aaron Rathy, Kevin Henshaw, Jimmy Lariche and Bob Soven turned out. Only the occasional icing created more buzz than Rathy’s impressive performance including an absolutely massive HS900 off the kicker.

There was more than just pro men’s wakeboarding at the event too: wakeskaters and amateur men also got a chance to ride. Kyle Hyams rode strong all day and was able to fend off the local boy Colin Haas to take home the wakeskate win. In addition to wakeskating, Colin also competed in open obstacles on a wakeboard, taking third in that round.

It was a day full of non-stop action, so much in fact, that two days worth of riding was jammed into one day. That means tomorrow, the cable at KCW will turn for a freeride session, which will give everyone a chance to get out and ride with the pros! Qualifying Day at Colorado Springs PWT

Colorado Springs, Colo. – The top professional wakeboarders from throughout the globe hit the waters of Prospect Lake today for the opening rounds of the MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour stop in Colorado Springs. The event, which concludes tomorrow, Saturday, July 24, at Memorial Park, opened with preliminary rounds for the Pro Men and Jr. Pro Men’s divisions.

While many big-name riders were on-site today for the Pro Men’s division qualifying round; all eyes were on the return of former King of Wake and Colorado native Tino Santori, as he made his first Pro Tour appearance in over a year.

“It feels great to back on Tour, competing against these guys,” said Santori. “It’s difficult being away from the Tour, but I’m just stoked to be riding today and in my home state.”

Santori was first off the dock in his four-man heat, going up against Kirby Liesmann, Josh Palma and four-time X Games gold medalist Danny Harf. Santori had a solid run and the support of a hometown crowd, but Palma and Harf proved to be too much for the former two-time national champion, knocking him out of the contest.

“The level of riding is insane here; everyone has stepped up their riding so much,” said Santori. “I didn’t do as well as I hoped for, but I had fun out there and that’s all I can ask for.”

Palma and Harf advance to tomorrow’s Pro Men quarterfinals along with 18 other pros. The quarterfinals will begin at 11:30 a.m.

In the Jr. Pro Men’s division, 19 amateur rippers hit the water today for their quarterfinal round of action in Colorado Springs. Only the top two riders from each of the five quarterfinal heats advanced, narrowing the field of riders down to 10 for tomorrow’s semifinals.

Among the 10 semifinalists is 16-year-old Daniel Powers, who posted a perfect score of 100 points during his quarterfinal run today. Powers and the rest of the Jr. Pro Men semifinalists will take to the water tomorrow at 1:30 p.m., following the Pro Men’s quarterfinals.

The Pro Tour wraps up its stop in Colorado Springs tomorrow, Saturday, July 24, with the ticketed event starting at 11:30 a.m. and the Main Event running from 5 to 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the gate for $10 (general admission), $5 (ages 6-12) or free (ages 5 and under).

The Main Event features high-energy athlete introductions, leading into the Pro Men finals. It also includes the Pro Tour’s new double up contest and big-air challenge. The two new competitions are designed to feature select athletes performing exciting and innovative new tricks that aren’t normally attempted in a traditional contest setting.

World Wakesurfing Championships Day 1

Day one, the training day, of the World Wakesurfing Championships closed a few minutes ago with big smiles and great anticipation. Tomorrow are the preliminary events with the Championships on Saturday. This is the world's biggest wakesurfing event and with a purse of over $35,000 it is one of the richest watersports events in 2010.

A key event in the Minneapolis Aquatennial, this event has been getting excellent tv coverage and it's the featured Aquatennial event of the day. The day started with Channel 11, the most prominent TV station here in Minneapolis and CBS affiliate, doing athlete interviews and live remotes from the boat. The coverage is tops and this Championships event is being covered by over 20 media outlets.

Athletes from all corners of the planet are here and report excellent riding conditions and the most spectacular wakes behind 2 Centurion Enzos. Executive Producer Todd Gaughan commented, "This is an outstanding event and the conditions are perfect. Supported by the industry and the top surfers, it's an excellent venue for showcasing wakesurfing."

Copeland Durham Looks to Bounce Back at Air Nautique WWA Nationals

Sparks, Nev. – Emily Copeland Durham is one the most highly decorated pro female wakeboarders in the world, but in 2009, the Denver native decided to put her career on hold to start a family and give birth to her first born child. Now nearly a year and half since her last professional contest, Copeland Durham returned to the pro wakeboard scene today by hitting the waters of Sparks Marina for the Pro Women’s division quarterfinals at the Air Nautique WWA Wakeboard National Championships, presented by ROCKSTAR.

“I’m just excited to be back out on the water, doing what I love,” said Copeland Durham. “The other girls have stepped up their riding so much since I last competed, but I’ve been training and my goal is to finish within the top three in the contest.”

Copeland Durham’s first shot at a triumphant return came today, as she finished second in her heat, advancing onto tomorrow’s semifinals.

“I was a little nervous about riding, but felt I had a good run today,” said Copeland Durham. “Now that I got my first run out of the way, I’m feeling a little more confident going in to tomorrow.”

Should Copeland Durham advance in the semifinals and win her division on Sunday, it will mark her second national title since 2001. Coincidently, Sparks Marina was the site of her last professional win, back in 2008.

The Pro Women will hit the water again tomorrow, July 17 at 11 a.m. for their semifinal round of action.

In addition to the Pro Women’s division, the Air Nautique WWA Nationals hosted 10 other divisions, including five finals. Among the new national titlists are Tyler Worrall, Andrew Scheafer, Tim Clinton, Ricky Gonzalez and Morgan Pederson. All five riders earned invitations to represent the U.S. at the Wakeboard World Championships later this year.

The Air Nautique WWA Wakeboard Nationals, presented by ROCKSTAR will continue tomorrow, July 17 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., where the pro divisions will hit the water. Tomorrow is a ticketed event, as is Sunday.

2010 Mastercraft Pro Tour Awards

Knoxville, Tenn. – To help commemorate one of the most exciting and innovative seasons yet, the MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour will host its 19th annual Pro Tour Awards ceremony on Saturday, August 14 from 9 p.m. – 11 p.m. at the Bijou Theater in downtown Knoxville. The Awards will take place immediately following the conclusion of the season-ending contest, held at Volunteer Landing, just three blocks south of the Theater.

“The 2010 Pro Tour has been one of the most impressive and exciting seasons yet,” said Sean Dishman, Sales and Marketing Director of the MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour. “Everyone works extremely hard during season and this ceremony is a celebration of those season-long efforts.”

Air Nautique WWA US Nationals This Weekend

Sparks, Nev. — The King of Wake — the world’s elite pro wakeboarding series — makes its fifth stop of the 2010 season on July 14-18 in the greater Reno area of Sparks, Nev., for the Air Nautique WWA Wakeboard National Championships, presented by ROCKSTAR. With four of the eight stops already in the books for the 2010 season, only 27 of the 62 riders remain in contention for the King of Wake crown, and from those 27 pros, only 10 will still be alive in the points chase, following the Air Nautique WWA Nationals.

The Air Nautique WWA Wakeboard National Championships, presented by ROCKSTAR serves as the final contest in the series before the “Chase for the Crown.” The Chase tightens the points race in the series by adjusting the totals of the top 10 riders in the standings, following the fifth stop of the season.

Only the 10 riders involved in the Chase will have the three remaining stops in the series to top each other in the standings for the King of Wake crown.

“The Chase is kind of like our version of the playoffs,” said defending King of Wake Aaron Rathy, who currently ranks 20th in the standings. “Nationals is going to be a high-stakes contest, with a lot of added pressure to step up our riding. Nobody wants to end their season early.”

Currently, 16-year-old Aussie phenom Harley Clifford leads the King of Wake standings with 360 points. Two-time King of Wake crown-bearer Phillip Soven trails closely behind Clifford with 335 points, while former wakeboard world champion Rusty Malinoski rounds out the top three with 246 points.

While the top three point leaders are very likely to remain in the Chase even if they don’t compete at the Air Nautique WWA Nationals, for everyone else this event will be their last chance to save their season.

For the Pro Women’s division, the Air Nautique WWA Nationals serves as the third stop in the five-event Queen of Wake series. While the Queen of Wake does not use the Chase format, the Air Nautique WWA Nationals does mark the midway point in the season, when the top riders begin to break away from the rest of the competition.

Former crown-bearer Nicola Butler sits at the top of the standings with 190 points, while 2008 Rookie of the Year Raimi Merritt trails closely behind with 165 points. Current Queen of Wake and defending U.S. national champion Dallas Friday rounds out the top three in the standings, tied with Merritt at 165 points.

Unfortunately, Friday suffered a season-ending injury to her right knee during the second stop of the series and will be unable to continue to defend her crown. With Friday out for the season, the door has been opened for newcomers to step up to contend for the Queen of Wake title.

Raph Derome Wins Wake The Line

It was an amazing weekend of wakeboarding and wakeskating in Germany, as 24 pros met at the Müngersdorfer Stadionbad in Cologne for the 3rd annual Wake The Line competition.

The initial "presentation" rounds had each rider take one pass on the Sesitec 2.0 system to warm up the crowd, which brought lots of excitement off the T-Mobile kickers in the way of a cannon ball from Ben Horan, a huge dive from Parks Bonifay, and a handful of other crowd-pleasers.

Since there were only 8 wakeskaters in the competition, it only took one elimination round to narrow the field to the 4 that went into the super final.

Ben Horan, hilariously referred to as "Oran Ben" and "Beni" throughout the competition, looked solid but eventually fell to Jan Kissman's consistent riding. Germany's Kissman laid down two good runs and was untouchable in his final round.

The wakeboarders kept it exciting with some surprises, upsets and injuries. Keith Lidberg wasn't able to defend his 2009 title after he wrecked practicing a toe-tap on the kicker/barrel setup, and cable master Tom Foshee busted a tooth on the quarter-pipe.

Other excitement came from the Brothers Derome, who were paired against each other in Round 1. Amazingly, the younger Rafael edged out his brother Oli, proving that the junior pro is a real threat coming up the ranks.

But Raphael didn't stop with just his brother. He joined three other Liquid Force teammates in the four-man super final, and kept the heat up. Ultimately, after beating out Daniel Fetz, Nico Von Lerchenfeld, and Shawn Watson, Canadian Raphael Derome claimed the 2010 Wake The Line title.

Another change in format that we're making is in regards to the tricks that a rider can use for scoring. Judges will not allow repeated tricks. If you've landed a certain trick in round one, you can't use that trick again in round two or in the finals. If you land a frontside 9, you can use a backside 9 to score, but you can't do another frontside 9. We're hoping this will help with creativity in each round and will help the judges determine who truly is the best during the event. In order to win the entire event, the rider will have to have landed 3 different tricks in one day.

Fort Worth, Texas – The MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour made its second stop of the 2010 season today in Fort Worth, TX. The Pro Tour, which runs through Saturday, June 12, on Lake Moser at Texas MasterCraft, kicked off the three-day-long event with qualifying rounds for the Pro Men and Jr. Pro Men divisions.

First off the dock this morning were the pros for their opening round of action, where 36 riders looked to stay afloat on Tour and qualify through to the next round of the contest. Only the top three riders from each of the eight heats advanced, sending 24 pros to tomorrow’s Round of 40, where they will be joined by the top 16 riders on Tour, including Aussie phenom Harley Clifford.

“Qualifiers might only be the first round of the contest, but they’re just as critical as any other part of the event,” said veteran rider Zane Schwenk, who qualified on Tour for his 18th consecutive season. “Everyone wants to make the Tour, so the level of riding is super intense right from the get go. I’m stoked to be able to hang with these guys at 35 years old.”

Among the other pros advancing onto the Round of 40 from today’s qualifiers are Texas natives Joey Bradley and Tom Fooshee.

“I rode really well today and stuck my tricks, but it’s a long contest and there’s a ton of talent here,” said Bradley. “Having the event in my ‘backyard’ is great; I’m very familiar with this lake and feel really comfortable riding here.”

Bradley, 26, of Arlington, placed second in his heat today, while Fooshee, 25, from New Braunfels finished in third, good enough for both Texans to punch their tickets to tomorrow’s Round of 40.

“Keith [Lyman] and Trevor Hansen were both really dialed in today, so finishing behind them in my heat wasn’t so bad,” said Fooshee. “The competition only gets more intense from here, so I definitely need to step up my riding if I want to keep going in this contest.”

Both Texans and the rest of the pros competing in the Round of 40 will hit the water tomorrow, Friday, June 11, from 12:30 to 5 p.m.

In the Jr. Pro Men division, nearly 30 of the top amateur riders hit the water for the Jr. Pro Men qualifiers. Only the top four riders from each of the five heats advanced, narrowing the field of riders down to 20 for tomorrow’s quarterfinals.

Among the 20 quarterfinalists are Canada’s Raphael Derome, Aussie Jarrod Askew and the American Dan Powers, who each laid down a flawless run during their qualifier today.

The Jr. Pro Men’s division will kick off the festivities in Fort Worth tomorrow, with their quarterfinals beginning at 9 a.m.

The Pro Women’s division will also hit the water tomorrow for their opening round, beginning at 11 a.m.

In addition to all the action on the water; on land, there’s plenty of great food; athlete autograph signings; chances to win freebies; and shopping at the most cutting-edge stores for water-sports equipment including boats, wakeboards, wakeskates, sunglasses and the latest in wakeboarding and surfing fashions.

Monster Energy WWA Triple Crown at TSR

The cable was turning, the sun was shining, and the field had been whittled down to the very best for the final day of the Monster Energy Triple Crown presented by Alliance Wakeboard Magazine. The day began with the open men's, obstacles and wakeskate events, and after a brief public session, the pro action got underway.

For the pro ladies, Netherlands' Maxine Sapulette dominated all weekend with solid air tricks such as an s to blind and roll to blind to take home the title.

The pro wakeskaters went twice, once to cut it down to the final four, and then again for the final run. Clint Tompkins was riding strong in the early rounds, stopping a kickflip off the incline. In the finals though, he wasn't able to keep that trick under him and despite his big spin off the kicker, he couldn't top Liquid Force’s Andy Kolb. The German rider laid down solid lines in the flats including a 3 shuv, big spin, backside big spin, and body varial revert, flats backside 3, as well as a 270 shuv on the table, 360 off the kicker to take home first. For him though, being a spectator was the highlight. "I think the wakeboarding was especially intense," Kolb said. "I was surprised for Freddie (Von Osten) and Dominik (Guhrs) for doing so well. I love Texas, the hotness, the people, the cable, just everything."

As Andy said, the wakeboarding was the big show. Before the pro men's final got started the pros took to the obstacles, where local boy and Liquid Force rider Tom Fooshee had no trouble putting down the winning tricks. The pro men's final though, which came down to Nick Davies, LF’s Freddie Von Osten, Dominik Guhrs and Tom Fooshee, was the real show down.

The finals included heavy tricks such as an s-mobe 5 by Fooshee, back mobe five by Guhrs, 315 by Von Osten and Back 9 in the flats by Davies. In the end though, Davies had trouble putting it together, and 17-year-old Von Osten was there to pick up the slack. He was able to advance, where he'd end up head to head against the local Tom Fooshee. To no one's surprise, Fooshee remained unbeatable and took home top honors.

"The contest went amazing, I couldn't be anymore happy with the competitors that came and how the results turned out," Fooshee said. "I had the advantage to come out weeks before the event and train, but even so, these guys made me work harder than I've ever had to work. I was particularly excited about doing a backside 9 as I just learned it a week ago and all the mobe five variations kept me fired up."

By the end of the day it was clear the event wasn't just about winning, but about progressing the level of cable wakeboarding as well. In the finals, two toe 1260 attempts were thrown, although no one was able to ride away. Matty Hasler landed a HS Backside 1080 while the judges prepared the final scores. The level of riding at this event was better than not only any cable event to this date but better than anyone expected!

Liquid Force Signs Nico Von Lerchenfeld

Today, Liquid Force has announced that Nico von Lerchenfeld, a 17 year old German wake and snowboard talent, has been signed to it’s International Team. Nico will be riding Liquid Force wakeboards and bindings.

Mastercraft PWT Acworth Day 2

Acworth, Ga. – Despite an hour-long rain delay today, the action continued in Acworth, as the top wakeboarders in the world hit the waters of Lake Allatoona at Dallas Landing Park for day two of the MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour. Day two featured the Jr. Pro Men’s division competing in their quarterfinals, while the pros took to the water for their Round of 40, all to advance onto tomorrow’s final rounds of action.

In the Round of 40, the 24 riders from yesterday’s pro qualifiers competed with the top-16 ranked riders on tour in 10 heats of four for a spot in tomorrow’s quarterfinals. By the end of the day, the field of riders was cut in half from 40 to 20, as only the top-two riders from each heat advanced.

Among the 20 riders advancing from the Round of 40 is two-time world champion Andrew Adkison, who competed today with an injury. Adkison, who won the Acworth Pro Tour stop in 2006, suffered a slight hairline fracture in his left radius two days ago and was originally unsure if he would be able to compete at the event.

“The X-ray hadn’t come back yet, so I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to compete in Acworth, said Adkison. “Once my doctor cleared me to ride, I knew had to be here to compete.”

While Adksion said his injury limited his riding today, it didn’t stop him from taking first place in heat and earning a spot in tomorrow’s quarterfinals.

“I had a decent run today, but I had to mellow out at the end of it,” Adkison commented on his performance. “I really started feeling the pain on my out of course Heel 7 and after my batwing. We’ll just have to see what tomorrow brings.”

Adkison and the 19 other quarterfinalists will kick off tomorrow’s festivities at 12 noon.

In the Jr. Pro Men’s division, 24 amateur rippers hit the water today for their quarterfinal round of action in Acworth. Only the top two riders from each of the five quarterfinal heats advanced onto tomorrow’s semifinals, sending more than half of competition home.

Among the 10 riders advancing from today’s quarterfinals is birthday boy Freddie Wayne, who celebrated his 16th birthday on Friday, May 20. Wayne entered the quarterfinals as the third seed in his heat, but rode away with a near-perfect score of 98.50 out of a possible 100 points to pace his division.

Wayne and the rest of the Jr. Pro Men riders will take to the water for their semifinals tomorrow at 2 p.m., following the pro men.

The MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour will wrap up in Acworth tomorrow, Saturday, May 22 with riding from 12 noon to 8 p.m. After the contest is over, the riders will head to downtown Acworth off of Main Street for the award ceremony and block party.

Acworth, Ga. – For the first time since 2008, the MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour returned to Acworth, Ga. today to host its 2010 season-opening event. The Pro Tour, which runs through Saturday, May 22, in Acworth at Dallas Landing Park, opened its first day of action with qualifying rounds for 35 riders.

Each of the 35 riders hit the water today, vying for one of 24 spots in tomorrow’s Round of 40, where they will be joined by last year’s top-16 ranked athletes on the 2009 Pro Tour.

Among the 24 riders advancing onto the Round of 40 from today’s qualifiers is local wakeboarder Brett Lee of Jackson, Ga.

“It’s great to have the Pro Tour back Georgia and be able to have my friends and family watch me ride,” said Lee. “Tomorrow will definitely be more of a challenge, having the top guys riding, but as long as stick my run and have fun out there, it should be a good day.”

The 22-year-old Georgia native finished third in his heat today, good enough to punch his ticket to tomorrow’s Round of 40.

“Considering I was in the same heat as Shaun Murray, a legend in the sport, and Josh Palma, who has been on a recent hot-streak, I did pretty well today,” Lee commented on his run. “The best of the best compete on the Pro Tour, so if I want to go further in this contest, I need to step up my riding and stay focused.”

Brett Lee and the rest of the pros competing in the Round of 40 will hit the water tomorrow, Friday, May 21, from 12 noon to 5 p.m. The Jr. Pro Men’s division will kick off the festivities tomorrow with their quarterfinals, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Mastercraft PWT Kicks Off This Weekend

Acworth, Ga. – The top professional wakeboarders in the world are set to kick off a brand new season of high-flying, rail-sliding, water-sports action, as the MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour opens its 2010 season, on May 20-22, on the waters of Lake Allatoona at Dallas Landing Park in Acworth, Ga.

Acworth is the first of five stops in a series points race for the coveted Pro Tour title. Riders accumulate points based on final placement at each tour stop, with the highest total points-earner taking home the Pro Tour title at the end of the season.

“We’re stoked to get the season started,” said the defending Pro Tour titlist, Harley Clifford. “Acworth is a great site, the crowd is wild and there’s no better place to kick off the Pro Tour.”

Throughout the event, riders compete in a series of elimination rounds by performing rail tricks and aerial stunts, while being pulled on the water by the official PWT towboat, the MasterCraft X-Star, at a speed of approximately 25mph. Tricks are scored by a panel of judges, with only the top-scoring athletes advancing in each round until a winner is determined in the finals.

The MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour will wrap-up the event on Saturday evening from 5-8 p.m., with the Main Event. The Main Event will feature Pro Men’s finals, a double up contest and a big-air challenge off the kicker.

Some of the top riders competing in Acworth include the defending Pro Tour titlist and 2009 Rookie of the Year, Harley Clifford; four-time X Games gold medalist, Danny Harf; and the only rider ever to land a 1080 in a contest, Rusty Malinoski.

2010 Canadian National Wakeboard Championships

Ottawa, ON -- Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada (WSWC) is pleased to announce details for its 2010 Canadian Wakeboard Championships. The 14th edition of the Championships will be held from August 26 to 29, 2010 at renowned Shalom Park in Leduc (just outside Edmonton), Alberta.

After months of planning and anticipation the 8th annual three day wake and music festival has come and gone. With so much hype preceding the event it was going to be hard to live up to expectations, but TSR nailed it by putting on the best event ever at Texas Ski Ranch. The cast of wake competitiors was better than ever before and between the Rookie Triathlon, Mickey Avalon and the Bikini Contest Saturday night there was plenty of action to entertain the estimated 10,000 people that passed through TSR this past weekend.

The event breakdown for the unfortunate souls that missed out began with the inaugural Obscura Championships presented by Monster. Aaron Reed and the crew had free reign with the small ponds towards the back of the property, and took full advantage of the setting building a seven stair pool gap with hubba style ledges on both sides as well two more ledges in the landing pond. The different hits gave the opportunity to judge the best line rather than just best trick. Reed was able to entice some of the largest names in the wakeskate industry including but not limited to: Nick Taylor, Danny Hampson, James Balzer, Stuart Shinn, Ben Horan, Andy Pastura, Bret Little, Reed Hansen. Even Matt Manzari who is set to be married just seven days later came out to help judge qualifying on the first day! In the end Ben Horan was crowned Champion, Reed Hansen took second with use of only one arm (seriously he hurt his shoulder and rode with his arm inside his vest) and Danny Hampson took third. The Obscura Championships brought a level of wakeskating to Cablestock that TSR had not seen since the Toe Jam three years ago.

After Friday’s Qualifying round for the winch comp finished, the wakeskaters headed to qualifying behind the MasterCraft X-Star and then to the cable for two of the most fun events of the weekend. TSR had scheduled a wakeskate launch competition and a shuvit comp for Friday night. First was the launch that was open to any and all. After narrowing it down to just four riders we strapped the shadow box to their helmets and littleraly let them fly. The finalist included Chad Sharpe (Pro Wakeboarder) Bret Little (Pro Wakeskater) Bryan Wogrin (TSR Pro Shop Mgr.) and Wes Keller (Rookie Cable Operator). They each had their own unique style but Bryan Wogrin edged out Chad Sharpe going 22.7 feet in the air, the same height as the largest ever-recorded double up by a shadow box (Rusty Malinoski). Chad Sharpe went 19.3 with his patented Flying Squirrel. This event had to be more fun for the spectators than the participants.

Immediately following the launch was the shuvit comp. How many wakeskate shuvits can you complete in one 60second lap at TSR. This event took a little to get it started, but Nike 6.0 rider Nick Taylor said after taking two attempts that "it was one of the most fun wakeskate events he had been to in a long time." The format was simple: do as many shuvits as you can in one lap and you can keep trying as long as you have something left in the tank. Grant Roberts was the fourth rider off the dock and threw down a phenomenal 51 shuvs. The three previous riders had 31, 32 and 43 which at the time all seemed amazing. During Round one Nick Taylor was the second closest with 44. While no one got close a lot of riders took additional turns trying to better Grant's 51. Andy Pastura and Nick Taylor both posted 47 on their second attempts while almost blacking out from exhaustion. Bret Little didn't want the title to leave Texas and put out 43 with about 15% of the course left but fell. After being convinced to give it one more try Bret had 40 at the exact same spot and fell again. Both runs he was on pace but his final run ended with Bret throwing up twice from exhaustion! This should tell you how bad the riders wanted the $10 per shuv the winner receives, but maybe more importantly the bragging rights. When everyone had nothing left Grant went on a victory lap and landed 20 shuvs before crashing at tower 1, a pace that if he could of held would have been over 60 better than a shuv a second. Congrats to Grant whose record will most likely stand for at least one year until Cablestock 2011!

The Cable competition began with the two best Cable riders in the world, Tom Fooshee and Nick Davies winning their heats along with Marc Shuster from Ski Rixen winning the third heat of the Day. Nicola Butler qualified first and continued her domination on through the finals where she took home the top spot. The Junior division was won by Texan Ryan Smith. Reed Hansen qualified first in cable wakeskate but was only able to finish fourth in the Finals after hurting his shoulder and again riding with only one arm. The podium was filled by Josh Zentmeyer (3rd), Bret Little (2nd) and Andy Pastura taking home the 2010 title. While the much-anticipated Mens Wakeboard final expected Nick and Tom to dual it out, Nick sustained an injury on his opening lap that would prevent him from riding the rest of the day. We all wish Nick a speedy recovery and hope to see him at full strength at TSR for the first stop of the WWA World Series in less than a month. Tom Fooshee continued his dominance with a seemingly effortless win throwing down a Pete 5, HS BS 7, off the kickers, killing the rails with gap bS 450's and air tricks that included Smobe 5's and Crow Mobe 5's. The real kicker was for his wildcard where Tom stuck a switch toe side 1080, his fourth in a row! Marc Shuster took second with a inside slim and a whirley 5 among a few other hammers. Josh Rice, Cody Johnson and Sam Scoggins round out the top five while Nick Davies finished sixth despite the injury.

The MasterCraft boat competition was the most difficult to judge all weekend long. The riding was unbelievable with so many great riders making it out to TSR for this years event. Tom Fooshee continued his Texas dominance by beating out Sam Carne and Chad Sharpe who also found their way to the podium. Stu Shin showed which discipline he excelled in by winning the Boat competition in wakeskate. Nicola Butler swept the cable and boat comps becoming only the second woman to do so. The Liquid Force structure only comp saw Tom Fooshee dominate again. With Nick Davies forced to watch because of an injury, Tom was able to place first in all three areas earning a perfect 100. Cody Johnson was second and Gabe Lucas took third. The real surprise was rookie Sam Scoggins who qualified for the finals in both cable events and was able to take fourth in the structure only. Look for more out of Sam in future events at TSR.

Saturday also had all kinds of activities that were not part of the competitions. Cody Johnson adapted a c-rail from the skate park so it could attach to the front of our tractor to be used as part of the Rixen Little Bro two-tower demonstration. LF riders Cody Johnson, Kevin Henshaw and Tom Fooshee showed off for a while before we filled the lake with tubes and inflatables by Liquid Force for everyone’s enjoyment. This was the perfect way to watch competitions on either side, as the Little Bro lake is sandwiched in between the boat and cable lakes. The bikini Contest kicked off Saturday night's festivities, followed by Mickey Avalon. A show that I recommend everyone sees at least once in his or her lifetime. With spectators well over 1000, the college-aged crowd was able to see a great show in even a greater setting! Tom Fooshee continued to show why he is widely considered to be the best overall wakeboarder in the world winning three different wake events for the second year in a row. This year he was able to add the Texas Hold'em championship, which will probably secure his place as the only athlete to ever win four events at one Cablestock.

Rukus skateshop gathered the regions best skaters for the 2010 Skateboard Contest held on the Nike 6.0 mini ramp. Local rippers Raney Beres and Edward Sanchez tied for the win and James Fitzgerald finished third. Raney has been winning contests at TSR since he was 8 years old and continued to dominate this weekend.

James Clevland won the Rookie Triathlon with a time of 44 min & 10 seconds, while Andrea Fisher was the first female finisher with a time of 49 min & 13 seconds. Both athletes are ironically from Austin, TX and were able to beat the international field of athletes. The course utilized the cable lake for the 300-meter swim, 11.1-mile bike and 2-mile run. The field was made up of nearly 1000 competitors that filled the property Sunday morning starting at 5am.

I feel like I have only scratched the surface on the event, look for multiple films to be produced by Norbifilms.com capturing more of the event. Malibu Boats Dealers are patient and accustomed to training men and women on a regular basis. They know how to break down the functions of a Malibu boat and teach them thoroughly, but simply without any pressure. These are classes designed for groups of women so no one is on their own. The girls will learn together and have a boatload of fun in the process.

The event’s activities depend on the dealer, but many of them focus on basic boat driving including docking, general driving and loading the boat on a trailer. Some dealers will also teach the tricks to pulling someone; a rider, skier and/or tuber. Still other women’s events like the one offered by Girls Ride the Wake in cooperation with Northern California Malibu Boats Dealer Larson Marine, focus on teaching girls to wakeboard and improving their riding through professional athlete instruction.

Rob Falgout, owner of Central Texas Water Sports, explained the motive behind his Ladies Day event in Austin, TX. “We heard that some of our female customers weren’t comfortable driving, docking, pulling riders, etc. They would tell us they’d love to be able to go out during the week when their significant other is at work, but didn’t think they could do it. We thought that was such a shame. It’s summertime, the kids are out of school, you have brand new boat, but you’ll only use it on the weekends because you have to have the ‘man of the house’ to use the boat? No, that’s just not acceptable.”

Air Nautique Wake Games Day 3

Orlando, Fla. – Qualifying pro and amateur wake athletes gathered at the Orlando Watersports Complex yesterday evening to be drafted onto one of 10 teams for the Air Nauituqe Wake Games, presented by ROCKSTAR team challenge. At the Draft, 10 preselected captains selected nine riders to field a team with a mix of male and female, pro and amateur wake athletes.

Starting today, each of the 10 squads began collecting points toward the team challenge, as nine of the amateur divisions completed their final rounds. Team Harf and Team Adkison are currently tied for first place with 345 points, as both teams had four riders compete in today’s finals. Teams Soven and Team Derome trail behind in third place, tied at 280 points.

All 10 teams will continue to vie for points in tomorrow’s finals, where the remaining divisions will battle it out on the water on the final day of the Air Nautique Wake Games, presented by ROCKSTAR. The team with the highest total score will win the team challenge.

The Air Nautique Wake Games, presented by ROCKSTAR concludes tomorrow, Sunday, May 2, with athletes hitting the water at 9 a.m. and finishing at 4 p.m.

Air Nautique Wake Games Day 2

Orlando, Fla. – Following Thursday’s pro qualifiers, the Air Nautique Wake Games, presented by ROCKSTAR continued its second day of action in Orlando, with 14 amateur divisions taking to the waters of the Orlando Watersports Complex. More than 116 amateur wake athletes competed today, vying for a spot in the finals. Among the 49 riders advancing in the contest today was the daughter of a local prominent head football coach.

Gigi Meyer, daughter of Florida head football coach Urban Meyer, advanced to the finals today of the Air Nautique Wake Games, presented by ROCKSTAR. The 17-year-old Meyer, competing in the Junior Women’s amateur division, scored a 31.67 good enough for fourth place in her semifinal heat and a ticket to the finals. This is the first time Meyer has advanced to the finals in a major wakeboarding event. Finals for the Junior Women’s division is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. tomorrow, Saturday, May 1.

All amateur wake athletes advancing today will be drafted on to one of 10 Air Nautique Wake Games teams later this evening. Over the next two days of competition, pro and amateur wake athletes will contribute points toward a team score based individual placement within their respective divisions. The team with the highest total score will claim the team title.

The Air Nautique Wake Games, presented by ROCKSTAR will continue tomorrow, May 1 with 13 divisions hitting the water.

Air Nautique Wake Games Qualifiers

Orlando, Fla. – The top wake athletes from throughout the globe hit the waters of the Orlando Watersports Complex in Orlando, Fla. today for the opening rounds of the 2010 Air Nautique Wake Games, presented by ROCKSTAR. The four-day pro-am contest kicked off today with qualifying rounds for the Pro Men, Pro Women and Pro Wakeskate divisions.

Those advancing past the opening rounds today earned an invitation to the Team Draft and will move on to the next round of the contest within their respective division.

At the Draft on Friday, 10 preselected captains will select qualifying athletes to field a team. Athletes will contribute points toward a team score based on their individual placement within their respective division. The team with the highest total score will take home the team title.

Nearly 50 wakeboarders competed today in the Pro Men’s division qualifiers. Only the top-two riders from each of the 10 heats qualified through to the Draft and on to Saturday’s quarterfinals. Rookie sensation, Bob Soven posted the high score of the day with a 78.33.

The Pro Women’s division featured four heats of four, with only the top-two riders from each heat advancing. Raimi Merrit, Amber Wing, Nicola Butler, and the defending Wake Games titlist, Dallas Friday, each led their respective heat today.

The Pro Wakeskate division had 10 shredders qualify through today. All ten wakeskaters will head to the Draft tomorrow evening and Brian Grubb is still on the hunt to pull the five-peat at the Air Nautique Wake Games.

The Air Nautique Wake Games, presented by ROCKSTAR will continue tomorrow, April 29 with 15 amateur divisions hitting the water before the Team Draft later that evening.

FISE is one of the biggest European Freestyle Contests and will play host to the world's best professional athletes in BMX, wakeboard, mountain bike, inline skate and the anticipated return of street skateboarding for this year. Campion recently began manufacturing all of its boats using a renewably sourced bioderived resin, the first boat maker to do so. Envirez® resin uses a substantial amount of soybean oil and corn derived ethanol in its formulation enabling Campion to eliminate over 100,000 pound of C02 from entering the atmosphere. Campion is also using Ecomate® polyurethane flotation foam products that further reduce harmful emissions and unlike previously used foams, are free of Volatile Organic Compounds. Campion is also testing a resin remover, an alternative to acetone that is a much less hazardous material and non-flammable. 2010 King Of Wake Starts This Week

Orlando, Fla. – The King of Wake – the world’s elite pro wakeboarding series – will open its 2010 season, on Apr. 29-May 2, in Orlando with the Air Nautique Wake Games, presented by ROCKSTAR. The season-opening event, held at the Orlando Watersports Complex, is the first of eight stops throughout the United States in the season-long points chase to see who rules the wake. Over the course of the season, athletes accumulate points at each stop, with the highest total points-earner taking home the most prestigious crown in wakeboarding.

“Orlando is going to be epic because it’s our first stop and everyone wants to start the season off with a win,” said defending King of Wake, Aaron Rathy. “Everyone is looking to go big at the Wake Games and we’re all stoked to get the season started.”

The Air Nautique Wake Games, presented by ROCKSTAR is a four-day-long pro-am contest, which groups wakeboarding’s top pro athletes with local amateur riders for a team challenge.

Ten preselected captains will host a live draft to field a team with a mix of male and female, pro and amateur riders. The amateur riders will be separated into their own division, but contribute points toward a team score based on their individual placement in that division. The pros will also contribute points to their team’s score based on their individual placement in the pro division. The results from the pro division will also reflect the points awarded toward the series standings.

Throughout the event, the pros will compete in heats through a series of rounds, including qualifiers, quarterfinals, semifinals and finals, by performing rail tricks and aerial stunts, while being pulled on the water by the event’s exclusive towboat, the Super Air Nautique 230, at a speed of approximately 25pmh. Tricks are scored by a panel of judges, with only the top-scoring athletes advancing in each round of the contest until a winner is determined in the finals.

Last year, Canada’s Rusty Malinoski finished in first place at the 2009 Wake Games and helped his squad win the team challenge. Malinoski will look to repeat at this year’s event and take the lead in the series standings, but faces a tough field of competitors, including the defending King of Wake, Aaron Rathy; 2009 Pro Tour winner, Harley Clifford; four-time X Games gold medalist, Danny Harf; and rookie phenom, Bob Soven.

2010 King of Wake Schedule

Orlando, Fla. — The King of Wake announced today where and when the top pro riders will compete for the ultimate wakeboarding crown, with the release of its 2010 schedule. In 2010, the top pros will compete in a series of eight events throughout the United States for one ultimate season-long points chase to see who rules the wake.

The eight events included in the 2010 series are the Wake Games, the WWA National Championships, the WWA World Championships and all five stops on the Pro Wakeboard Tour.

The King of Wake opens and ends its 2010 series at the Orlando Watersports Complex in Orlando, Fla. The series kicks off with the Wake Games on April 29-May 2 and wraps up the season on Aug. 19-22 with the WWA World Championships.

The Pro Wakeboard Tour features five stops, beginning on May 22 in Acworth, Ga. The Pro Tour then continues on to Fort Worth, Tex., on June 12; Elizabethtown, Ky., on June 19; Colorado Springs, Colo., on July 24; and concludes in Knoxville, Tenn. on Aug. 14, where a Pro Tour winner will be crowned.

The WWA National Championships, held in the greater Reno area of Sparks, Nev., on July 14-18, will mark the midpoint of the season, and the Chase for the Crown will begin following this event.

The Chase limits the King of Wake crown to the top 10 riders in the standings midway through the season. Only the 10 riders involved in the Chase will have their point totals adjusted and have the remaining three stops for topping each other in the standings for the King of Wake crown. The overall winner will be crowned at the 2010 Wake Awards.

Canada’s Aaron Rathy is the current King of Wake champion and will look to defend his title in 2010 against the sport’s top riders, including Pro Tour titlist and 2009 Rookie of the Year Harley Clifford; current National champion Adam Errington; and defending Wake Games winner Rusty Malinoski.

WWA and INT League Form Partnership

Seattle, Washington and Lake Alfred, Florida (January 26, 2010) - The INT League and World Wakeboard Association (WWA) are coming together to make historic progress in the water sports community. Rick Stocks, president of the INT League and Shannon Starling, president of WWA have been in negotiations since September. Both organizations are prolific leaders in the water sports community with a common vision for global water sports. They have been working with other industry leaders, event promoters, and sponsors to put together a plan that will benefit riders, skiers, dealers and the water sports industry.

WWA/INT aspires to grow participation and consistency in towed water sports by actively promoting, organizing, and supporting, fun competitive events by welcoming all ages and ability levels.

“INT and WWA share a common mission and responsibility to grow water sports,” says Starling. WWA and INT have partnered to increase efficiency, cost benefits for participants, and to unify all aspects of water sports.

INT and WWA are leaders in event promotion and sanctioning. WWA/INT have a national infrastructure to provide event formats and water sports marketing. WWA will continue to focus on sanctioning pro and amateur wake sport events domestically and globally. For the first time in history, WWA/INT will be able to represent the water sports industry as one entity to composite market water sports to non-endemic sponsors. This partnership will consolidate costs; collectively WWA/INT can be more efficient with funding by saving on growing insurance costs and other common expenses.

For industry, the partnership will double the membership base for marketing. INT and WWA events will remain independent in sponsorship; however will combine several marketing efforts.

The benefit for dealers is that their reach will double. Dealers will be able to participate with both INT and WWA event organizers without date conflicts. Promo boat owners will not face conflicting event dates in their area, and will be able to manage their promo schedule more effectively.

This change will generate numerous benefits for participants. To start, the partnership will mean less confusion for consumers. WWA and INT will share membership; with one membership card riders can compete in both INT League and WWA sanctioned events. Shared insurance and membership gives riders an opportunity to ride in more contests and pay less in membership fees. Future plans include nationally consistent scoring and judging formats, and creating a clear and smooth progression from amateur competition to pro competition. 2010 WWA World Wake Park Series Dates

The WWA is thrilled to announce the dates and locations for the 2010 WWA Wake Park World Series (WPWS). In its third year, this is the first series of its kind with an international field of professional wakeboarders competing at cable parks all across the globe.

The U.S.A. will be kicking off the WPWS for 2010 in early June. The event is scheduled for June 5th and 6th at a park in the United States to be determined. The series will then swing over to Europe as the Netherlands will host their first ever WPWS event. The Protest Cable Call will be held at the Down Under Cableway in Nieuwegein, Netherlands with its new state of the art facility.

One of the staple events in the WPWS, the T-Mobile Extreme Playgrounds (TMEP) will again bring the largest crowds with a variety of on-site activities including live bands and a BMX contest. TMEP brings more than 6,000 people on-site to watch the action of the WPWS take place.

One of the most talked about parks in the World will be hosting its first major event as the WWA Wake Park World Championships go to the Hip-Notics Cable Park in Antalya, Turkey. The coveted title of WWA Wake Park World Champion will be up for grabs again, as riders in professional and amateur divisions battle in what is known as the true World Championship for wakeboarding and wakeskating.

The final stop of the WPWS will be held at the most progressive wakeboard facility in the world, the CamSur Watersports Complex. Since the Haiti earthquake, Nautique employees have been donating items for the Haitian people but also wanted to volunteer their time. Nautique teamed up with Missionary Flights International and spent the day unloading trucks, sorting donations, cleaning bathrooms and much more.

Mastercraft Pro Tour Announce Dates

The Mastercraft Pro Tour has annouced their dates and a new contest format for the 2010 season. In an effort to fresh things up, all of the Pro Tour dates will take place on a Saturday evening between 5-8PM. Here's what the press release had to say:

Orlando, Fla. – The MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour will hit the water in a new way during its 2010 season, as each stop will now feature three different competition formats with an innovative mix of live music all set to take place on Saturday evenings. Event organizer World Sports & Marketing announced today that the MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour will unveil its new action-packed setup in five cities throughout the United States during its 19th season, including stops in Fort Worth, Tex.; Knoxville, Tenn.; Elizabethtown, Ky.; Acworth, Ga.; and Colorado Springs, Colo.

All five tour stops will host preliminary rounds prior to the new three-hour action-packed format held on Saturday evenings. In its 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. time slot, the Pro Tour will feature contest finals, a big-air challenge and a double up contest.

On land, fans should check out the Pro Tour’s new entertainment stage to catch athlete interviews, color commentators and interactive live music.

The 2010 season kicks off in Acworth, Ga., at Dallas Landing Park on May 22. From there, the Pro Tour continues to Fort Worth, Tex., at Texas MasterCraft, June 12; Elizabethtown, Ky., at Freeman Lake Park, June 19; Colorado Springs, Colo., at Memorial Park, July 24; and wraps up the season in Knoxville, Tenn., at Volunteer Landing on Aug. 14.

The MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour is a five-stop series points race for the Pro Tour title. Athletes accumulate points at each stop based on final placement in each event. The highest total points-earner at the end of the five-event season will take home a cash purse and the coveted Pro Tour title.

New Video From Axis Wake Research

(Merced, CA) – Axis Wake Research marked the dawn of a new decade with the 4th video in a series featuring the Axis A22 and the riders who go insanely big behind it. Randall “The Vandall” Harris, Eddie Valdez and Melissa Marquardt demonstrate the big wakes of this simple, rugged, wake boat that is as easy on the wallet as it is on the eyes.

This 8-minute video was shot in HD by JAO Productions. The factory footage was captured at Axis Wake Research in Loudon, TN and made possible by the man and women who build the A22 price-point wake boat. The riding was shot in cooperation with Vandall, Eddie and Melissa at West Side Riders (WSR) Headquarters in Paradise Lakes, CA.
