The 2012 Rip Curl Grom Search at Monster Energy Wakestock offered up one of the most coveted prizes for amateur riders age 16 & under - a one year sponsorship from Rip Curl and a qualification spot in the WWA World Series Pro Men's Wakeboard event.
After tallying the scores of over 50 riders competing in the Wakestock Nautique Amateur Championship, the 16 & under field was narrowed down to just four for a Rip Curl Grom Search Showcase Final in front of Wakestock's big waterfront crowd at noon on Saturday. Finalists Mitch Lowry, MacKenzie Petrie, Charlie Murhy, and Will Morris went head to head.
When the spray had settled, it was 16 year old Mitch Lowry (pictured) who stomped the biggest run behind the new Monster Energy Super Air Nautique G23 towboat to claim the 2012 Rip Curl Grom Search title. Congrats to Mitch, the newest member of the Canadian Rip Curl wakeboard team.
"I'm so thankful that I got the opportunity to participate in and win the Rip Curl Grom Search at Wakestock this year," said Lowry. "Winning meant getting a spot to ride in pro which was an awesome experience. As for the sponsorship, I couldn't be happier to join the team as they are dominating wake in Ontario and across Canada."

Former Rip Curl Grom Search winner, Christian Primrose also had a great weekend making the finals in his very first Pro Men's contest.
"Since winning the Grom Search in 2009, that "so stoked" feeling has never passed, says Primrose. "As my Wakeboard career progresses, my goals get bigger, opening up my opportunities. Beginning in the Intermediate division's locally in 2009, to seeding myself amongst the top 10 Jr. Pro riders in the Mastercraft Pro Tour King of Wake Series this year, I am very grateful for the encouragement Rip Curl has given me"
The Rip Curl Grom Search is a global series of events designed to find future superstars of Surf, Wake and Snow. Now in it’s 12th year of existence the Rip Curl Grom Search program runs in nine countries around the globe.
This prestigious series gains momentum each year and will continue to provide competitors with a stepping-stone on their way to the top ranks of professional sport.
"We are very happy about the new partnership with Wakestock," stated Rip Curl Canada Marketing Manager Myrosha Daley. "It's awesome to have brought our Grom Search format to the premiere wakeboarding event in North America. Collaborating on the event illustrates Rip Curl's commitment to wake and to junior competition in the sport."
